Looking for the best restaurants in vegan Amsterdam? Don’t look further! There are many vegan restaurants in Amsterdam, and I will tell you where to go for the best vegan food in Amsterdam.
Whether you are vegan or just want to eat vegan food doesn’t matter, this is an article for you! I also share the best vegan-friendly restaurants in Amsterdam.
Being a vegan in Amsterdam is easy, as there are many options, and the food is of great quality. Amsterdam has been named the most vegan-friendly city in Europe in the past, and the vegan options grow every month.
Unfortunately, some (vegan) restaurants also sometimes close, but I try to keep this vegan Amsterdam list as up-to-date as possible. For example, you can’t longer eat vegan cheese at Mr & Mrs Watson or vegan pizza at Mastino Vegan Pizza, but exciting new places have been added in the city such as Primo Pasta, Kitchen Impossible, and Have A Roll.
As typical Dutch food is more about home-cooked meals, you won’t often see it in a restaurant. Traditional Dutch food consists of three things: potatoes, vegetables, and meat (substitutes). And in winter, we mash the potato and vegetables together for our ‘stamppot dishes’, with meat (substitutes) on the side. It doesn’t sound very exciting, right?!
Knowing that Dutch food is quite ‘boring’, it isn’t weird that there are many great restaurants in Amsterdam with cuisines from all over the world.
Something we are famous for is our snacks. We have amazing snacks in the Netherlands, like stroopwafels (cookies), apple pie, pancakes, poffertjes (tiny pancakes), chocolate sprinkles, drop (licorice), kroket (croquette), and much more. Luckily, as a vegan in Amsterdam, you can have these snacks in a vegan version at some spots in the city.

Vegan Restaurants Amsterdam for Dinner
It’s difficult to pick a restaurant to go to in Amsterdam, as the Amsterdam vegan restaurant scene is big!
As an Amsterdam local, I did a lot of research and tried many (vegan) restaurants. Plus, I got help from our vegan friends.
Enjoy vegan Amsterdam; these are my best recommendations. I will start with some vegan restaurants in Amsterdam for dinner, then continue with vegan breakfast in Amsterdam and vegan lunch in Amsterdam.
- Men Impossible & Ramen Impossible & Kitchen Impossible
Hazenstraat 19H ∙ Lange Niezel 27H ∙ Van der Helstplein 2
Men Impossible is a vegan ramen restaurant with super delicious ramen and other Japanese dishes. The restaurant is unique, as it’s a tiny place with only one table.
It’s a big community table that can seat around 20 people. And the chef does everything by himself; it’s just him in the restaurant.
You can’t just walk in and eat at Men Impossible; you have to make a reservation in advance. Dinner is served every evening of the week except for Tuesdays. But make sure to check the opening times on their Instagram, as they change sometimes.
On Men Impossible’s website, you can also make a reservation. Do it in advance (though only possible two weeks in advance), as it’s often fully booked.
In 2022 and 2023, Men Impossible opened two more locations in vegan Amsterdam: Ramen Impossible and Kitchen Impossible; how exciting! Ramen Impossible is more casual, doesn’t require reservations, has an à la carte menu, is located in the city center, and is open for both lunch and dinner.
Kitchen Impossible is also more casual than Men Impossible and does walk-ins only for dinner (and lunch on the weekend). You can find Kitchen Impossible in the Pijp neighborhood.
Men Impossible, Ramen Impossible, and Kitchen Impossible are definitely among the best vegan Amsterdam restaurants and are a must if you love Japanese food.
- Hearth
Camperstraat 26H, 1091 AG Amsterdam
Hearth (stylized as H/eart.h) is a vegan restaurant in Amsterdam that looks absolutely amazing. You totally get the Bali and Tulum vibes when you go to Hearth.
It’s an Italian-Asian vegan restaurant with an amazing interior design and ambiance, and the food is also amazing. It almost looks too stunning to eat.
Stay for a drink at their sustainable cocktail bar or at the fireplace after dinner. A DJ is playing the perfect dinner music, fitting the vibes of the restaurant.
H/eart.h stands for heart, earth, art, and hearth! Perfect for your vegan dinner in Amsterdam.
- Vegan Sushi Bar
Kinkerstraat 83H ∙ Wittenburgergracht 143
Vegan sushi Amsterdam! Yes, vegan sushi is possible and super delicious. The Vegan Sushi Bar Amsterdam was the first vegan sushi restaurant in the Netherlands; how cool!
They offer a wide range of super delicious plant-based sushi. It’s a must-visit vegan restaurant in Amsterdam if you want to eat vegan sushi! And I absolutely love their motto, ‘The only thing we take out of the ocean is plastic.’
They also want to make everyone more conscious about their food choices and live a more sustainable—and healthier—life.
As of March 2022, they have two Vegan Sushi Bar restaurants in Amsterdam. One is on the Kinkerstraat, and the other is about a 20-minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station on the Wittenburgergracht.
- Vegan Junk Food Bar
Staringplein 22 ∙ Marie Heinekenplein 9-10 ∙ Reguliersdwarsstraat 57 ∙ Eerste Van Swindenstraat 389
Vegan junk food in Amsterdam! The Vegan Junk Food Bar Amsterdam is the place to go to for—you can probably guess it—vegan junk food.
There are multiple locations in the city, and they don’t only have delicious food, it’s also very picturesque. Perfect for those Instagram shots.
Things to eat at the Vegan Junk Food Bar are their vegan burgers, kapsalon, and vegan Dutch bitterballen (betterballs)—among many other things.
Their mission is to create a positive impact on animal, environmental, and human welfare. And who doesn’t love to eat (vegan) junk food once in a while?
You can now also find Vegan Junk Food Bars in other cities in Europe, like Barcelona and Cologne!
- Mediamatic
Dijksgracht 6, 1019 BS Amsterdam
Mediamatic is a project space, art lab, plant-based restaurant, aquaponics farm, and place with free exhibitions. So there’s a lot to see and do here!
As it’s a popular restaurant to visit, making reservations far in advance is recommended. Sometimes, you need to wait weeks for availability. It’s very much worth it, as not only is the vegan food at Mediamatic delicious, but the whole restaurant, located in a greenhouse, is beautiful.
They got especially popular during the ‘social distancing times’ as they created special greenhouses where people can dine while social distancing. You sit next to the water in your own little greenhouse, overlooking the amazing views of Amsterdam. If you can, definitely make a reservation in their ‘Serres Séparées’.
Good to know: those greenhouses are only open during the warmer months, so not during wintertime.
It’s a unique vegan dining experience in Amsterdam, for sure! The restaurant is also open for lunch every day of the week except for Mondays.
The menu at Mediamatic is inspired by local ingredients and seasonal vegetables. Everything is 100% plant-based and focuses on creating sustainable, healthy, and environmentally friendly dishes.
- Bonboon Amsterdam
Rozenstraat 12, 1016 NX Amsterdam
This vegan restaurant in Amsterdam is wonderful and perfect for a night of fine dining. First, they were located on KNSM island, a bit further from the city center, but in 2023, they moved to the neighborhood of the Jordaan. And their new restaurant is amazing!
Bonboon offers delicious, well-styled food in a cozy restaurant with friendly staff. A four-course menu at Bonboon costs 52 euros and is worth every cent. It’s also possible to go for a five-course dinner!
Bonboon is open from Wednesday to Sunday for dinner.
- Meatless District Amsterdam
Bilderdijkstraat 65-67, 1053 KM Amsterdam
Meatless District used to have two vegan restaurants in Amsterdam. Sadly, the one in the neighborhood de Pijp is permanently closed, but luckily, you can still go to the one in Oud-West!
It’s a modern restaurant that serves dinner every day of the week and lunch on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Their menu changes with the season as they try to get the most freshly made products. Besides delicious foods, you can also enjoy great drinks at Meatless District Amsterdam.
- TerraZen Centre
Sint Jacobsstraat 19HS, 1012 NC Amsterdam
This vegan Amsterdam restaurant is a unique one. It’s a colorful restaurant with creative foods, and the whole restaurant looks creative. TerraZen Amsterdam Centre is a Caribbean-Japanese restaurant; that sounds fantastic, right?! And it’s already in there since 1973!
A couple owns the restaurant; the woman is Japanese, and the man is Caribbean. Prepare yourselves for unique flavors and ingredients.
TerraZen is located close to Central Station, so its location is very convenient.
- The Meets
Sumatrastraat 28, 1094 ND Amsterdam
For more vegan fine dining in Amsterdam, you go to The Meets!
I am very happy to hear The Meets decided to remove the remaining animal products on their menu to serve fully vegan food only.
Vegan food with fresh ingredients that are as much as possible organic. And their menu includes many gluten-free options. One rule: it has to be 100% lekker (tasty).
Their restaurant is only open during the evening, and The Meets’ decoration is awesome, hipster, and colorful. Good to know: The Meets is closed on Sunday and Monday.
- De Ceuvel
Korte Papaverweg 4, 1032 KB Amsterdam
De Ceuvel is a café, restaurant, and community center in a sustainable development project. The vibes here are amazing and very relaxed, and the views are amazing, too.
On the terrace of de Ceuvel, you overlook the water, perfect for a long summer evening, especially when there’s live music! I simply love it here. Besides having some food and drinks here, go and explore the area of the restaurant.
The whole menu of De Ceuvel is plant-based and delicious. They also serve CO2-free coffee from Kaap Koffie.
De Ceuvel is a place mainly locals go to, as it’s often the tourist path in Amsterdam Noord. However, more and more people know how to find it.
- Robin Food
Frederik Hendrikstraat 111A, 1052 HN Amsterdam
Robin Food Kollektief is a unique vegan Amsterdam restaurant. It’s operated by volunteers and is not only a great place for food but also a great place to meet people.
Every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, you can eat a 3-course vegan meal here, and Sundays are for games and snacks.
There’s no menu; they cook something new every day, and you eat what they serve. It’s cheap, delicious, vegan, and always cozy.
See more information on their website.
- Morris & Bella
Nova Zemblastraat 586, 1013 RP Amsterdam
Morris & Bella is a great restaurant if you like slow fine dining; you don’t go here for a quick meal.
They used to create plant-based meals with the option to add a meat or fish supplement, though, from 2021, they are solely serving 100% vegan plates.
Vegetables are the main ingredients of every dish; therefore, their slogan is ‘It starts with vegetables.’ Vegetables that come from the Netherlands. And Morris & Bella doesn’t use soy products or meat substitutes in the dishes.
This vegan Amsterdam restaurant is amazing, as the presentation of the vegetables is so beautiful. It’s not just tasty! 4-course to 6-course dinners are available at Morris & Bella.
- Primo Pasta
Wijttenbachstraat 10H, 1093 JB Amsterdam
Who doesn’t love some pasta? And especially vegan pasta! Well, for vegan pasta in Amsterdam, Primo Pasta is the place to be!
Primo Pasta was founded in 2023 by two Italian cousins named Moris and Marco. They are all about reinventing Italian classics and creating mind-blowing experimental dishes that are 100% vegan, with a special focus on their homemade fresh pasta. Every plate is a true expression of their passion!
Try their bestseller Casarecce with vegetable Bolognese sauce or one of their other amazing pasta dishes. Fusilli al pesto verde, spinach-filled ravioli, truffle mezzelunette, red beet gnocchi, vegan lasagna, you just want to eat it all!
And keep some space in your belly for vegan tiramisu!
- The Sunny Burger Co.
Leidsekruisstraat 10hs, 1017 RH Amsterdam
Sadly, vegan burger restaurant Deer Mama closed its doors, though luckily, if you are looking for vegan burgers in Amsterdam, you can now get them at The Sunny Burger Co.! Perfect for a quick vegan bite. Or how they say it themselves: a vegan taste of sunshine.
Formerly known as Miami Burger, The Sunny Burger Co. does not only have amazing vegan burgers, but I am also a fan of the funky design of the restaurant, its vibes, and its kind staff.
Try the Big Hack (their vegan take on the McDonald’s Big Mac), Filet-No-Fish, Crispy Fried Chick’n, Just A Cheese Burger, or Smokey BBQ Not Bacon. These are some of the vegan burgers on the menu at The Sunny Burger Co.
And what’s a burger with some golden crispy fries on the side? For example, some truffle ‘Parmesan’ fries, loaded fries, or Cajun spiced fries!
- Vegan Temple Bar
Lange Leidsedwarsstraat 17, 1017 NE Amsterdam
Craving more vegan burgers? Head to the Vegan Temple Bar! The Vegan Temple Bar is located close to the Leidseplein, on a street with mostly tourist restaurants.
The area is famous for its (cheap) pizza restaurants, and the Vegan Temple Bar used to be a pizzeria as well, though the Egyptian owners changed it to a vegan restaurant!
The smokey temple burger, the love ch*cken burger, the truffle delight, or the L’Italiano are some of the tasty vegan burgers on their menu. And that’s not just it; they also have tasty salad bowls and wraps!
And for small snacks, I recommend trying the Dutch snacks ‘bitterballen’ or ‘kapsalon’. And as a dessert, there are the Dutch vegan apple pie and vegan ‘stroopwafel’ to try.
- Plant Based Sushi Amsterdam
Kostverlorenstraat 11, 1052 GS Amsterdam
More vegan sushi in Amsterdam! Besides the Vegan Sushi Bar, you can also eat vegan sushi at Plant Based Sushi Amsterdam.
The restaurant was a pop-up restaurant in the past, but I am happy to hear they found a permanent location now in Amsterdam West.
Their menu constantly changes to ensure all food is fresh and in season. And I love their mission to show diversity in sushi, proving that sushi doesn’t need any fish or animal products to enjoy.
And don’t forget to order a Japanese drink too when you visit Plant Based Sushi, some sake for example!
- De Kas
Kamerlingh Onneslaan 3, 1097 DE Amsterdam
Another amazing restaurant in a greenhouse (like Mediamatic)! Sadly, this one is not 100% vegan, though as it’s one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Amsterdam, it really can’t be missed on this vegan restaurants in Amsterdam list.
At De Kas, they work with fixed menus, so there is not a la carte. Just let them know when you make a reservation that you eat vegan, and they will prepare a super delicious meal for you. It’s seriously one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had.
The fixed menu consists of 5 or 6 courses, and while it isn’t cheap, it’s so worth it, especially for a special occasion.
As it’s such an amazing restaurant, you do need to make a reservation a while in advance! Or you need to be lucky if a last-minute spot becomes available.
Their food is all picked in the morning and freshly served in the afternoon and at night. They have a farm-to-table cooking concept with vegetables from their own gardens in Amsterdam and the Beemster area. It’s local, fresh, and sustainable, with vegetables playing the leading role in their dishes.
Besides having a ‘normal’ Michelin star, De Kas also has a green Michelin star for its commitment to sustainable gastronomy.
- Madre
Westerstraat 186, 1015 MR Amsterdam
Madre is one of the newer vegan restaurants in Amsterdam! And it’s a Mexican restaurant. Here, modern Mexican cuisine meets Amsterdam flair.
I absolutely love Mexican food, so Madre is a gift from heaven! They have a greed for good and want to be part of a positive change. Taking care of the world, their neighborhood, and the people around them. Like a true Madre would.
On their menu, you can find dishes like guacamole, tostadas, mushroom ceviche, tacos (especially Tuesdays are for tacos!), mole, and cauliflower wings. It totally brings me back to my many Mexican adventures!
You won’t see the word vegan on their menu, but the restaurant is 100% vegan.
Vegan Breakfast Amsterdam
Some say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, while others skip it. I love breakfast, especially if you have time to sit down and fully enjoy the food.
There are a few places in Amsterdam that offer great vegan breakfasts.
- Koffie ende Koeck
Haarlemmerweg 175, 1051 LA Amsterdam
Koffie ende Koeck is a cozy café and vegan pastry shop close to the Westerpark. Go here for coffee, tea, sweets, and sandwiches. Perfect for your vegan Amsterdam breakfast or a coffee break (Dutchies love coffee breaks with sweets).
The vegan pancakes at Koffie ende Koeck are super delicious, and the cakes are the best!
If you would like to have a high tea here, make a reservation in advance. The meaning of Koffie ende Koeck is coffee and cookie/cake. Many locals love to go here!
- Wild & The Moon
Van Woustraat 138 ∙ Arnold Schönberglaan 9 ∙ Scheldeplein 1 ∙ Kinkerstraat 334
Already very popular in Paris and Dubai, and now located in the Netherlands too! Wild & The Moon is a 100% vegan, gluten-free, and plastic-free vegan hotspot in the city.
And as of the beginning of 2024, they opened their fourth location in Amsterdam. All locations are a great addition to the city because who doesn’t love all-day (vegan) breakfast places?
At Wild & The Moon, you can find delicious coffee on the menu besides granola bowls, soups, juices, salad bowls (a Pad Thai salad bowl, for example, so yummy), frozen bowls, smoothies, and more!
- Margo’s Amsterdam
Eerste Tuindwarsstraat 2A, 1015 RV Amsterdam
What do you do when you decide to go vegan but miss croissants that are crisp and flaky?! Then you make them yourselves! That’s what Margo and her husband decided to do, and now you can buy those delicious vegan croissants at Margo’s Amsterdam!
Margo’s is a vegan bakery in Amsterdam in the Jordaan neighborhood. Freshly baked pastries, plant-based cookies and other bakes, and Italian-American-style submarine sandwiches with freshly made bread are all available here! Perfect for some vegan breakfast.
Good to know: the sandwiches are only available from 11:30!
Their entire menu is 100% plant-based, fair-trade, sustainably sourced, and mostly organic.
- Oliver Green
Kinkerstraat 74A ∙ 1e Oosterparkstraat 7H ∙ Olympiaplein 127
Looking for a healthy breakfast? Oliver Green is the place to go to! At Oliver Green, they don’t use any processed foods; everything is made in the restaurant from scratch.
Avocado toast, after-workout smoothies, yogurt bowls, or delicious juice, Oliver Green has it all! Their specialty is macro bowls. A bowl filled with vegetables, whole grains, vegetable proteins, and healthy fats. Take their Indian curry bowl or Mexican bowl and be amazed.
They aren’t 100% vegan but most dishes are.
There are three Oliver Green vegan restaurants in Amsterdam. One on the Kinkerstraat, one the Olympiaplein, the other on the Eerste Oosterparkstraat.
Vegan Lunch Amsterdam
Time for lunch! No matter if you want a quick vegan kebab, falafel, or want to sit down for a salad, vegan burger, or sandwich, it’s all possible.
- Maoz
Damrak 40 ∙ Muntplein 1 ∙ Leidsestraat 85 ∙ Albertcuypstraat 67
At Maoz, you can eat delicious falafel! So if you love falafel, you simply have to eat here. Originally, this fast-food chain started in Amsterdam, but now they have multiple locations worldwide. In Amsterdam, you can find four of them.
Since 2018, all Maoz locations in Amsterdam have been 100% vegan. The best part about Maoz: they have a salad bar with self-service, so you can put as much salad and sauces on your falafel bread as you want (and refill). Make sure to check which sauces you use; some are very spicy.
Maoz is the perfect place to go if you want to eat something fast and/or take away. It’s delicious and extra convenient if you are on a budget.
- Veganees
Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat 45H, 1054 HK Amsterdam
Vegan Asian street food in Amsterdam! I absolutely love Asian (street) food and am super happy with a restaurant like Veganees in the city, serving vegan street food.
From Korean fried cauliflower, edamame, spring rolls, banh mi, to kimchi toast, miso ramen, and tom kha soup, they have it all!
The dishes aren’t huge, so ordering multiple dishes and sharing them with your table companions is perfect. This way, you can also try multiple dishes, which I always love!
- The Old Soul
Hobbemakade 71, 1071 XM Amsterdam
Vegan Surinamese soul food! From roti rolls, masala wraps, tempeh sate, salads, pita sandwiches, and much more, you can eat it all at The Old Soul. And don’t forget about the vegan Surinam sweets and high tea on the menu.
Many Surinamese people migrated to the Netherlands, so you can find quite some Surinam restaurants in the country. And it’s great to see there are also vegan Surinam restaurants available, like the Old Soul.
The chefs at the Old Soul turned traditional Surinamese flavors into delicious vegan dishes. I’m a huge fan of Surinam food, and I recommend you try it out as well (if you haven’t yet).
The restaurant has a lovely, low-key atmosphere with Surinamese music playing in the background for extra chill vibes! Perfect for lunch during the weekend or dinner every day of the week except for Mondays and Tuesdays.
- Soil Vegan Café
Bilderdijkstraat 141 ∙ Javastraat 40h
Two cute little cafés with vegan comfort food! One is located in the East of Amsterdam on the Javastraat, and one is located in the West of Amsterdam on the Bilderdijkerstraat (also known as Soil of Amsterdam). Their location in the East is their newest spot.
There’s something vegan for everybody at Soil, from burgers, ribs, and tacos to salads, bowls, and noodles. Though the menu changes every season, so there are new things to try regularly!
At Soil, they focus on intense and earthy flavors. It’s all 100% vegan, seasonal, homemade, and honest, and they try to get their ingredients locally.
The atmosphere at these vegan cafés is very casual, and the staff is super friendly. There’s also an outside seating area if the Dutch weather allows it!
- Helin’s Vegan Döner
Linnaeusstraat 221, 1093 EP Amsterdam
Heli’s Vegan Döner is the perfect spot if you are looking for a quick vegan bite and something low-key! Here you can buy vegan döner. And they also have delicious vegan desserts (vegan baklava, for example!).
While the whole menu isn’t vegan, they have many vegan options! And I definitely wanted to include it on this list with the best vegan restaurants in Amsterdam, as you can find non-vegan döner shops all around the city. One with vegan döner is pretty unique!
I recommend trying the vegan kapsalon here! Which is a very Dutch thing. It’s a little box with fries at the bottom topped with veggies, cheese, meat, and lots of sauce. And at Heli’s Vegan Döner, you can get it fully vegan!
- Spirit Amsterdam
Czaar Peterstraat 2a, 1018 PR Amsterdam
Not everything at Spirit is vegan, but they have many vegan options (around 70%), and everything is vegetarian and 100% biological.
This is a buffet-style restaurant, perfect if you can’t choose what you want and want to try many things. You pay per weight.
The food at Spirit is very fresh; they only use seasonal vegetables. This means you can eat Dutch ‘stamppot‘ in winter and fruit salads with Dutch organic strawberries in summer. Stamppot is a very traditional Dutch winter dish that you make with a combination of mashed potatoes and vegetables. My favorite stamppot is with kale and potatoes.
Spirit is also a great place to sit for a longer time. If you want to work, for example.
- Vleesch Noch Visch
Schaepmanstraat 2, 1051 JC Amsterdam
Vleesch Noch Visch (neither meat nor fish) is a street food bar and food truck with a terrace in Amsterdam-West. And you can find them at several markets, (food truck) festivals, and other events.
They are sadly not 100% vegan yet, though 100% vegetarian, and luckily, you can try their famous pita gyros as a vegan too. It’s so so so delicious! Or go for their vegan pita tikka masalaa. It’s a flavor explosion!
I highly recommend it as a quick vegan lunch. The main ingredient is love, and that’s what you taste!
Other dishes on Vleesch Noch Visch’s menu are salads, soups, and vegan cakes.
Vegan-Friendly Restaurants Amsterdam
Vegan-friendly restaurants are great to go to if you are with a big group and not everybody wants to eat vegan food (yet). Amsterdam has many of those restaurants!
- Yerba
Ruysdaelstraat 48, 1071 XE Amsterdam
For fine dining, you go to Yerba! YERBA is a plant-forward restaurant for creative and seasonal dining.
I’ve put Yerba on the list of vegan-friendly restaurants in Amsterdam, as they have some non-vegan things on their menu.
For example, they have an add-on organic egg and non-vegan halloumi on their brunch menu. But besides some add-ons, their menu is fully vegan!
It’s possible to brunch at Yerba on Sundays, and from Thursday to Monday, they are open for dinner, too.
They focus on seasonal ingredients at the restaurant and offer an extensive dinner menu with 4, 5, or 6 courses. And the presentation of all the dishes is simply amazing!
- Golden Temple Vegetarisch Restaurant
Utrechtsestraat 126, 1017 VT Amsterdam
Golden Temple is a restaurant with vegetarian & vegan food. Most dishes are Asian, especially Indian, though they also have many dishes from other cuisines on their menu (like Mexican).
The restaurant is a well-known vegetarian restaurant in the city, as they were the first vegetarian restaurant in Amsterdam.
Not only is the food lovely here, but the whole decoration is also beautiful, and the atmosphere is great. It’s recommended to make a reservation in advance.
- The Avocado Show Amsterdam
Keizersgracht 449 ∙ Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen 28
Everybody loves avocados! So, the Avocado Show is a super popular spot to go to. It’s a famous restaurant in Amsterdam, therefore often very busy. And not only the food is tasty and looks great, but the whole restaurant is also very Instagrammable.
One Avocado Show restaurant in Amsterdam has indoor seating (on the Keizersgracht) and one to-go location (on the Kleine Gartmanplantsoen). On their menu, they have a few vegetarian and vegan options available.
You can also find Avocado Show restaurants elsewhere in Europe, in London and Stuttgart for example.
- The Happy Pig Pancake Shop Amsterdam
Rosmarijnsteeg 12, 1012 RP Amsterdam
Vegan pancakes Amsterdam! As mentioned before, we have amazing snacks in the Netherlands, and pancakes are definitely among these amazing snacks. Or well, you can also eat them as dinner (or breakfast, or lunch, whenever you want!).
What’s so special about Dutch pancakes? They aren’t as thick as American ones, and they aren’t as thin as French crêpes.
The good news is that the Happy Pig Pancake Shop also has vegan pancake options!
- De Waaghals
Frans Halsstraat 29, 1072 BK Amsterdam
The Daredevil, that’s the meaning of “de Waaghals”. They try to be daredevils with the unique food they create!
De Waaghals is a vegetarian restaurant in Amsterdam that has been serving vegetarian and vegan food since 1981.
Their menu is set, and they serve a 3- or 4-course surprise menu with flavors from around the world, either vegetarian or vegan. The dishes revolve around vegetables and not around meat substitutes. They try to avoid those!
De Waaghals is a wonderful restaurant to go to with a relaxed atmosphere, plus their food is always fresh and creative. They serve organic wines as well.
- Kilimanjaro
Rapenburgerplein 6, 1011 VB Amsterdam
I love Ethiopian food! It’s so super delicious. And at Kilimanjaro, they serve Ethiopian, Eritrean, and other dishes from Africa. And they also have quite some vegan options on the menu. Or ask them about the dishes they can make vegan.
Thanks to the traditional Ethiopian Orthodox fasting period, during which believers abstain from eating animal-based products, Ethiopian cuisine has a wide variety of vegan dishes.
The restaurant is nothing fancy, though cute and nicely decorated. Good to know: you can only pay in cash at Kilimanjaro.
- Pizzeria DOPE
Eerste van der Helststraat 78 HS, 1072 NZ Amsterdam
Vegan pizza Amsterdam! And the pizza at Pizzeria DOPE is really dope. They have many vegan options available, and it’s just super delicious.
Maybe the most delicious vegan pizza you will ever taste! Homemade vegan cheese, a crunchy crust that’s thin, and delicious toppings that are super fresh.
It’s a small and cozy place, so not the right place if you want to have dinner for hours, though the pizza is fantastic and the staff very friendly.
And don’t forget to eat a dessert too, vegan tiramisu for example, when available.
- Sla
First shop: Ceintuurbaan 149, 1072 GB, Amsterdam
A salad bar that became so popular that they have nine locations in Amsterdam at the moment, and are rapidly growing. And throughout the Netherlands, they have 17 different locations!
Choose one of their amazing salad bowls, go for a bowl, soup, or wrap, enjoy hummus with bread, drink a juice or smoothie, and finish with a delicious sweet. It’s also possible to create your own salad bowl!
Sla means lettuce, but a salad is so much more than just lettuce. Most dishes at Sla are vegetarian and vegan, but some add-ons aren’t.
Besides their first salad bar on the Ceintuurbaan, you can also find them on the Utrechtsestraat, Middenweg, Amstelveenseweg, Westerstraat, Haarlemmerdijk, Admiraal de Ruijterweg, Kruisweg, and Claude Debussylaan.
- Mana Mana
Eerste Jan Steenstraat 85H (Pijp) ∙ Frederik Hendrikplantsoen 36 (West) ∙ Lange Leidsedwarsstraat 93H (Leidse)
Vegetarian and vegan Middle Eastern food in Amsterdam! You can find it at Mana Mana. There are a few options with meat too on the menu.
The food at Mana Mana is super delicious, and it almost looks too good to eat. I recommend ordering a couple of dishes to share. And it might be handy to make a reservation, as it’s often busy at Mana Mana.
One of their locations is in the neighborhood of De Pijp, and the other is in Amsterdam West. Their newest location is in the city center near the Leidseplein.
- Soup en Zo
Jodenbreestraat 94 ∙ Haarlemmerstraat 87 ∙ Van Baerlestraat 81 ∙ Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 54
Soup lovers, make your way to Soup en Zo! This place specializes in soups, and they really know how to make them. They also serve vegan and vegetarian soups.
Soup en Zo is not a great place to go to and sit for hours. It’s a great place to go if you want something fast and not too expensive.
There are multiple Soup en Zo locations in Amsterdam; some have space to sit while others don’t.
