Hi there! Welcome to my food and travel blog! I’m Roxanne Weijer, I’m 31 years old, born and raised in the Netherlands, queer, and I love to travel, cook, play sports, try different kinds of food, and write. My pronouns are she/her/hers.
‘Vega Recepten’ means Veggie Recipes in Dutch and came to life in 2020. On this website, I’d love to tell you what tasty (and not too difficult) vegetarian and vegan recipes you can make.
My travels around the world broadened my cooking inspiration, and I want to share all this knowledge here. Plus, stay tuned for many travel tips from all around the world. Follow my journey on Instagram @roxonajourney.
Vega Recepten
My blog is still young, but it already reaches over 150,000 readers per month. Most readers come from the Netherlands, Belgium, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. You can find recipes and other articles in both Dutch and English on Vega Recepten.
Sustainable and plant-based food is a topic that is growing in popularity, and I want to show that making vegetarian and vegan food can be fun and tasty. It doesn’t have to be complicated.
When I’m not cooking at home, I’m (usually) traveling and eating food all around the world!
Stay tuned for more travel tips in the future on Vega Recepten, but for now, happy cooking!
Get To Know Me Better
You can see me from afar as I’m a tall Dutchie (1.84 centimeters/6’1”) with blonde hair. People that know me from the online world are often surprised that I’m this tall because, of course, you can’t really tell from pictures, but now you know!
While I love to travel, cook, and play sports, I’m very quickly made enthusiastic about anything! I like trying new things, meeting people, and experiencing different cultures.
My love for animals is one of the reasons I stopped eating meat, and I’m currently eating flexi-vegan. All around the world, you can find and make the most delicious vegetarian and vegan food!
When I was 13, my dad and stepmom took me to Thailand. That’s when I fell in love with Asia, traveling, and food. And afterward, a world trip seemed inevitable.
After finishing high school, I left the Netherlands for six months with a friend to travel around Asia, New Zealand, and Australia. I met many incredible people, saw the most beautiful things, and did some crazy and fun things like bungee jumping, skydiving, and diving.
Back in the Netherlands, I moved to Amsterdam to study to become a physical therapist. I have always enjoyed working with people, sports, and helping people.
In Amsterdam, I met my girlfriend, and for three years, we were fully nomadic, traveling around the world. So there I was, on a second-world trip! Traveling the world as a lesbian couple made me see the world differently.
On the road, we started sharing our adventures traveling the world as a lesbian couple on Once Upon A Journey. And I started learning different skills like writing, photography, (video)editing, and everything SEO.
I’m currently not working as a physical therapist but working full-time on this website and my social media channels. And I’m traveling around the world along the way.
I often get the question if I still want to work as a physical therapist, and for now, I love what I’m doing at the moment, but who knows what the future brings? I love living life day by day, living it to the fullest, and making a difference along the way.
