Ice Cube Tray
For these fruit ice cubes, you need an ice cube tray that is spacious enough for your fruit pieces. We recommend getting a silicone one, making it easiest to get the ice cubes out.
There are also funny shapes such as cacti and flamingos, but such shapes are less suitable for these ice cubes with fruit!
How to Make Fruit Ice Cubes
Making ice cubes is simple: you fill your ice cube tray with water, put it in the freezer for a few hours and voilà, you have ice cubes! However, we are not going for ‘regular’ ice cubes here.
You make these ice cubes with fruit by cutting the fruit (we use strawberries, tangerine wedges, lemon slices, cucumber slices and blueberries). You put these pieces per color in cubes of the tray and then fill the molds with water. Or use coconut water, or lemon / lime juice for a nice taste!
You can, of course, use other fruits, vegetables or herbs (such as mint or lavender). Or make tasty combinations. You can also freeze fruit as slices / cubes and use the fruit itself as an ice cube, for fruit water for example.
The big question is often: how do I make clear ice cubes? One of the most common tips is to distill your water (for example by boiling 2x, or filtering water well), so using very clean water.
Hot water freezes faster than cold water, by the way, so if you want to make quick ice cubes, you can apply that trick. But the faster ice cubes freeze, the more cloudy the ice cubes become.
The very best tip to making clear ice cubes is to extend the freezing time. Check out the best tips to make clear ice.

Fruit Ice Cubes
With fruity ice cubes, your drink will be much happier and healthier!
Ingredients
- 1 strawberry
- 3 tangerine wedges
- 1 lemon slice
- 2 cucumber slices
- 6 blueberries
- Water, or coconut water or lime/lemon juice
Instructions
- Cut all ingredients into small pieces so that they fit in your ice cube tray.
- Make 2 ice cubes from each color. Fill 1 cube with 1 color and fill up with water. Repeat with the other colors and put your ice cube tray in the freezer.
- Depending on the size of your ice cube shape and the temperature of your refrigerator, the ice cubes will be ready after at least 2 hours.
- Ice cubes freeze faster when you use boiling water! But freezing faster also means less clear ice cubes.
- Your ice cubes will become clearer if you use distilled water (for example, by boiling it twice 2x), but they will be clearest with a longer freezing time.
