Wow, forget about cocktail nuts: these spicy roasted chickpeas are my new favorite (and healthy) snack! This chickpeas recipe is not only tasty, but also very easy.
Are Chickpeas Healthy?
Chickpeas are legumes and are good for your health because they lower LDL cholesterol. That is good for the blood vessels.
Chickpeas are also full of protein and are a good meat substitute.

Cooking Dried Chickpeas
In this recipe we use canned chickpeas, that are already precooked. Dried chickpeas have more flavor than canned chickpeas, but preparing dried chickpeas takes a bit more work.
Firstly, the dried chickpeas should be soaked in cold water for 8-12 hours. Use about three times as much water as peas for soaking, so for example, with 100 grams (3.5 oz) of dried chickpeas, 300 grams (10.5 oz) of water. You can then use the soaking liquid to cook them.
Cook the chickpeas in 45-60 minutes until al dente. It’s a bit of work, but you can taste the difference!
The Perfect Vegan Chickpea Snack
We make the perfect vegan chickpea snack by roasting the chickpeas with smoked paprika, chili powder (or cayenne powder for extra spice), a pinch of pepper + salt and olive oil. It is very easy and cannot fail! You can of course add other herbs to taste.
Oven Baked Chickpeas
We roast the chickpeas in the oven at 200 °C / 390 °F. Roast them for at least 30 minutes so that they are really crispy. If they are not crispy after 30 minutes, bake them a little longer. Also turn the chickpeas halfway through.
Pan Fried Chickpeas
You can also fry the chickpeas in a pan. It gives a different effect, but it does have a nut-like idea. Fry the chickpeas in a frying pan with oil until they are nice and golden brown.

The most famous chickpea recipe is of course hummus! But have you ever made rainbow hummus? And another great idea: add these roasted chickpeas to your Buddha bowl!
